Louise Knowles

How would you describe your work?

I work intuitively with colour and form. I like to express my own imaginings but I'm happy for eveyone to have their own interpretations.

Can you give us some insight into your process for creating your artworks?

I like to start with lots of colours as an underpainting. There is some sanding back and layering of more shape and form which allows the underneath to peek through.

Is there a typical day in the studio or is every day different?

I paint each day, it is different all the time. There is always music or a talking book on in the background.

What inspires you when you are creating your artworks?

I am inspired by so many things. Currently i am obsessed with the shapes and angles at my local sea pool. I swim laps there which I find very cleansing.

What would your dream project/collaboration be:

(Apart from working with Consequence of Change!? I do love fabrics and sew lots of my own clothes, fabric printing is a big dream. C of C is the beginning.

Who are your favourite artists and why?

I love Elisabeth Cummings and Richard Diebenkorn. It's their colours and I will never get sick of seeing their work.
